Some 20% of commercial and retail space in the city is currently vacant. With the workforce about 15% smaller. We have to get things moving again.
As Lord Mayor, my priorities will be to
Provide significant commercial incentives to attract business to vacant commercial and retail space
Set up special Lord Mayor’s taskforce to pro-actively seek out business to locate in the city
Ensure the city’s development planning matches market expectations and changing lifestyles. We must act like a mid-size city, not a big town.
Provide the infrastructure that supports modern businesses and the way they work. The “Ten Gigabit Adelaide” initiative is a great start, but it is only the start.
Re-work restrictions that make driving and parking ridiculously frustrating for a city of Adelaide’s size.
Re-think building regulations that are an impediment to reusing the upper levels of our heritage and character buildings
Protect our heritage buildings by providing higher heritage restoration incentives as well as a heritage rate rebate to the owners of listed properties
